Previous league results indicated that Corinthians had the ability to score tries but also conceded many scores. So it proved at windswept Corinthians Park last Saturday with Midleton scoring four tries to earn a well deserved winning bonus point in response to two tries from Corinthians.

Playing with the wind, Corinthians were ahead after two minutes with a successful penalty from R.Connellan. Midleton responded quickly with a Damian Smyth try.

Heroic defence curtailed Corinthians to one additional try during the remainder of the first half which resulted from an unfortunate misplaced kick out of defence by Holland.  Kieran Brierley, back from injury, formed a formidable front row with James Colbert and Mark O’Flynn as each member of the team defended as if their lived depended on it.

Corinthians led 10 pts to 5pts at the interval.  Astute kicking by Jason Holland, using the wind to great advantage, gave Midleton territorial advantage in the second half.

An intercept try by Rob Smyth, deservedly made Man of the Match, set Midleton on their way.

Due to injuries to some key players Midleton had selected a much changed back line who showed no inhibitions by throwing the ball around with great confidence which resulted in further tries from Paul Whelan and Gary Colbert, the second converted by Holland had Midleton comfortably in the lead until a last minute converted try gave Corinthians a losing bonus point
